The Directorate of Cooperatives is recognized as one of the main agencies implementing government initiatives for socio-economic development and poverty reduction of the people and is a Directorate under the Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. The Chief Executive Officer of the Directorate of Cooperatives is called the Registrar and Director General. Upazila/Metto: The office of this directorate is spread over 4 levels namely police station, district, division and headquarters. Besides, there is a National Training Academy, Comilla (Bangladesh Cooperative Academy) and a total of 10 Regional Cooperative Training Institutes, 1 each in Mymensingh, Feni, Naogaon, Kushtia, Faridpur, Moulvibazar, Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal, and Narsingdi.
